Bada Dashain began on 11 October 2026 with Ghatasthapana, the festival’s opening observance. Traditional rituals took place at the Dashain Ghar in Kathmandu’s Hanuman Dhoka, where jamara was planted.
During Ghatasthapana, grains such as barley and maize are sown in a ritual space. The seedlings that emerge form jamara, used in subsequent worship and offered as a blessing alongside tika on Vijaya Dashami.
OnlineKhabar reported that the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Development Committee had designated 11:47 am as the auspicious time for that year’s ceremony. Households across Nepal also marked the day with customary puja and preparations for Dashain.
