Former King Gyanendra Shah will not organise the customary public Dashain tika and jamara programme for Vijaya Dashami in 2026, according to a notice reported by OnlineKhabar on 11 October.
The communication secretariat at Nirmal Niwas said the former monarch intended to observe Dashain in a restrained manner. It linked that decision to deaths, damage and displacement caused by recent natural disasters, including an August flood and heavy September rains.
The announcement concerns the planned public event and does not amount to a wider change in Dashain observances elsewhere in Nepal.
